Hello! I hope that everyone had a nice Easter. I enjoyed the day with my family but probably ate too much candy. I love chocolate.
Your grown-ups should have gotten a letter from me last week about drawing your face to be put on a T-shirt. If your grown-up didn't get the letter, they can email to get another copy.
The author/illustrator that I will be telling you about this week is Lois Ehlert. We read a book by this author in January called Snowballs. In that story, a family decorated a snow family using things they found in their home. After the story, we made snow people to take home and decorate. Lois Ehlert uses an art method called collage. She uses papers and many other things to create the pictures for her book. She uses a lot of things that we would put in the recycle bin.
Story: The first book that I would like to you read by Lois Ehlert is Color Zoo. Here is the link to the video to watch it if you do not have that book https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JPujfLw5t6k This book doesn't tell a story, but shows how to make animals using shapes. If you're watching this book on YouTube, you may need to stop it to look at the pictures a little more closely. Can you see the shapes that she is using?
Math/Fine Motor Activity: I would like you to try to make an animal using shapes. You can cut shapes from paper or draw them with crayons or markers. Before you get started, you may want to watch this video. As we have learned at school, you can draw or create almost anything using shapes. This video is a reminder of how you can draw things using shapes. It's also a fun song to dance to https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Umu58RxNL7I
If you decide to cut shapes from paper, you can find things around the house to trace to make the shapes that you need. Your grown-ups can help you, too.
Snack idea: This week, we would have celebrated the April at school by making a special snack. Here's an idea for a snack that will go along with today's story. Make a butterfly that you can eat. Take a piece of bread and have a grown-up cut it in half from corner to corner. When you are finished, you should have two triangles. These will be the butterflies wings. Now you need to find something that you can use for the body. Maybe a carrot, a banana, a cheese stick or a stalk of celery? Can you think of something to put on the butterflies wings to give it some color? Peanut butter? Jam or jelly? Cheese? What could you use to make the butterflies eyes and antenna?
Happy April Birthday to Jake, Grace, Lucy, and Ryan!
Letter Learning: The letters for this week are Ii, Oo, and Uu.
Thanks for the pictures! Again, if I haven't posted your child's picture, please let me know! Check the blog tomorrow. The teachers are putting together some pictures to let you know what we have been doing at home!
